About Me
I work with teams and team leaders who aspire to work more effectively together to realise their collective potential. I enjoy the variety that comes through working with people at all levels and roles across different systems.
Described as having a natural ability to build connection, create the conditions for psychological safety and facilitate courageous conversations, my relational, appreciative, and dynamic style has a positive and lasting impact on the team’s performance and wider organisational culture.
My own experience and interest in team-working stems from 25 years clinical, managerial and leadership experience in one of the largest employers globally – the National Health Service (NHS) in England. This and the time I spent volunteering here and overseas continues to be a valuable source of learning and inspiration for the work I do today.
I am a Team Coach (TCS, AoEC, ORSC), Co-Active Coach (CTI), Time to Think™ Coach and Facilitator, and Insights Discovery™ Psychometrics Practitioner. I am an Honorary Lecturer within the School of Medicine at the University of Central Lancashire where I teach on teaming, group, and team development.
I occasionally invite brilliant colleagues to work alongside me when working with large teams where this will serve the group well.
1:1 Coaching You might feel stuck and unable to overcome a challenge at work. You might be feeling frustrated, lacking in confidence or unheard. Your usual strategies aren’t helping, and you are determined to find another way through. You want to be proactive and need the guidance of someone objective and independent to help you see the challenge from a different perspective. I can help you by removing limiting assumptions and changing your mindset to one that is more liberating.
We will meet for a series of 6 or more sessions. You will determine the topics and areas of focus and all content will remain confidential – regardless of who commissions this opportunity for you.
Paired Coaching Your role requires you to work closely with a colleague and you want to do this in a joined-up way where you trust the other person, can speak openly, voice differences and present yourself to others as one strong, united, and coherent pair whilst remaining authentic and true to your core values and beliefs.
We will meet for a series of sessions and you will both leave with a clear, psychological contract and strong foundation of trust on which to achieve your collective goals. Together you will grow your capacity for compassion, innovation, and efficiency whilst role-modelling positive, collegiate behaviours to others.
Team Coaching You can see the potential of your team who have a common purpose, but aren’t yet achieving more than the sum of their individual parts. The team meet with their coach to build psychological safety, on which the teams lived experience will be explored through dialogue, inquiry, reflection, and practice. Viewing your team as a living eco-system, you will discover the implicit influence of power, hierarchy, change and other concepts which will help you to make sense of and positively influence the dynamics you’re creating together. Teams I coach often find themselves discussing the undiscussable, listening to understand, and responding in a way that generates new thoughts, ideas, and creative solutions. These become new and established patterns of working and this is how sustainable change is achieved.
Team development workshops You may be a project team with a pre-determined lifespan, or a team who has no foreseeable end. You may be changing function and form or you may be in a place of stability and flow. Either way, you are committed to making progress along the natural journey of forming, storming, norming, and performing so that members find joy in their work and consistently function at their absolute best. We might undertake a team diagnostic to understand where the team are now and their future aspirations. A psychometric tool may be recommended to facilitate greater awareness of self and others and this will offer a common language to enable important conversations about people's preferences, style and impact. All workshops are bespoke and creatively designed to meet your unique needs.
Group Facilitation You have a big goal to reach and a finite amount of time to achieve it. You are involved in the task and need an external facilitator to help you get from A to B in an efficient and timely way, where everyone feels involved and can contribute fully. You need the group to stay on track and for content to remain within scope. The outcome is clear but you aren’t sure how to reach it in the most engaging way where you get the best from everyone. You are looking for someone who quickly builds rapport with and between the group, leads the process assertively, and get’s the job done in a unique style that everyone enjoys, takes seriously and where they feel seen, heard and respected. We might use structures such as Action Learning Sets, Transforming Meetings in a Thinking Environment, and effective decision-making approaches. The possibilities are endless.
Training and development You want to offer a bespoke development programme for leaders and managers within your organisation as part of a wider transformation programme. Gone are the days of telling people what to do. You recognise the value of a more relational, coaching style of leadership and management and want to embed an appreciative, growth mindset for people in your team or organisation. Participants will leave this experiential experience feeling confident and equipped with the skills to develop others in a more compassionate, encouraging and purposeful way. You will see a positive impact on the culture of your organisation, staff engagement, satisfaction and productivity.
Insights Discovery™ Psychometrics
You appreciate difference in people and recognise the opportunities this can bring to your team or organisation. You want to explore these differences using a validated tool, based on sound psychological theory. The Insights Discovery model has been approved for use in work and occupational development by the British Psychological Society.
I choose to offer Insights Discovery because it is a simple and memorable four-colour model which, when accompanied by a personal profile, helps people to understand more about themselves and others. This can support personal and professional development in areas of communication, decision-making and leadership. A team view, delivered alongside a facilitated workshop can support awareness at system-level and help improve relationships and dynamics.
